The rap went really well on Friday and the children learnt lots about the Audacity software and how to record sound using the snowflake microphone. At first, they appeared very quiet and needed a lot of prompting to give their opinions and involve themselves but once they had heard our rap and talked about how they might approach the task, they were far more confident and all four of the pupils got involved.
The children all told me that they had lots of fun during the day and were delighted to dress up in rapper attire and play the rap for the rest of the class to hear. They all created lyrics to go with their songs and played a collective role in completing the tasks provided and selecting the backing music to use for their raps.
The children began the day by discussing what they knew about World War II and rap music and so that Emily and myself could assess where their knowledge was at and cater to their needs as required. They created mind maps of World War II, thinking about words that came into their minds and different themes relating to the war. Next, they listened to different raps on Teacher Tube and created some rhymes of their own. They took turns at using the microphone to record themselves and briefly had a look at the Audacity program before lunch. They also chose a backing track to use in their pairs for when they record their raps.
After lunch, the children devised the lyrics to their raps in pairs and rehearsed them several times, both without and then with the backing rhythm, before recording them using the microphone and Audacity.

5 Years Time
In five years time, I hope to be finishing a masters degree in special needs and preparing to go into full-time work for the first time. I will hopefully have travelled with my friend across the world by the end of this time also.
First Blog
Hello!
I am in my third year studying Primary Education at Swansea Metropolitan University in Wales. The course is really good and school experience is fun but tiring. I am in my second week of the new year after spending the summer working abroad in a special needs camp.
Goodbye!
